The "Terra Firma" series
This series is characterized by an aesthetic of soothing neutral tones and timeless texture with hints of modern sensibility. These textured abstract paintings are inspired by old world pottery, one of the oldest human handicrafts that is both utilitarian and ceremonial. Allow them to ground you to the present but draw you in with its nod to ancient worlds. Melissa shaped the texture with her hands and finished with the refined chaos of a rag and paint brush.
Mixed Media Textile Art
A series inspired by the textures in nature. Melissa handcrafted walnut hulls into ink and then mindfully mixed the ink into modeling paste. She then added handwoven artisanal textile remnants to create these truly unique and sustainable pieces of art.
